How to Install an eSIM: Step-by-Step Guide
Install and activate your eSIM in under 5 minutes. Follow our simple guide for iPhone and Android devices.
Before You Start
How to Install eSIM on iPhone
Works on iPhone XS and newer running iOS 12.1 or later.
Open Settings
Go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data) > Add eSIM (or Add Cellular Plan on older iOS versions).
Scan the QR Code
Tap "Use QR Code" and point your camera at the QR code from your Simology confirmation email. Your phone will detect the eSIM profile automatically.
Confirm Installation
Tap "Add Cellular Plan" when prompted. Your phone will download and install the eSIM profile. This takes about 30 seconds.
Label Your eSIM
Choose a label like "Travel" or the country name so you can easily identify this plan later. You can change this anytime in Settings.
Activate When Ready
You can install now and activate later. When you arrive at your destination, go to Settings > Cellular and toggle your travel eSIM on for data. Set it as your primary data line.
How to Install eSIM on Android
Instructions for Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, and other Android devices.
Open Settings
Samsung: Settings > Connections > SIM Manager > Add eSIM. Pixel: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > Add SIM > Download SIM.
Scan the QR Code
Select "Scan carrier QR code" and point your camera at the QR code from your Simology email. The device will read the eSIM profile information.
Download the Profile
Tap "Confirm" or "Download" when prompted. Your phone will connect to the carrier's server and download the eSIM profile. Ensure you're on WiFi.
Name Your Plan
Give the eSIM a recognizable name like "Japan Trip" or "Europe Data". This helps if you have multiple eSIM profiles stored.
Set as Data SIM
When ready to use, go to SIM Manager and set the eSIM as your mobile data SIM. Keep your physical SIM for calls and texts if needed.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
QR code won't scan
Make sure you're scanning the QR code from the email, not a screenshot. Ensure good lighting and hold your phone 6-8 inches from the code. Try entering the activation code manually if available.
"Unable to add eSIM" error
Check that your phone is carrier-unlocked. Restart your device and try again. Ensure you have a stable WiFi connection during installation.
No data connection after activation
Go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data and ensure data roaming is turned ON for your eSIM line. Make sure the eSIM is set as your mobile data line. Try toggling airplane mode on and off.
eSIM installed but shows 'No Service'
This is normal before you arrive at your destination. The eSIM will connect to local networks once you're within coverage area. Data roaming must be enabled.
Before You Travel Checklist
